Today we left the scenic highlands of Scotland and headed down towards Bowness on Windemere and the heart of the beautiful Lakes District of England.

Scenery on the way to the Lakes District
Our last stop for the day before getting to the Lakes District stopover town of Bowness was at Gretna Green, our last taste of Scotland before crossing the border into England. Gretna Green in its day was famous for its many eloping young couples who would cross the border and head to the blacksmiths shop in days gone by to be married when it was illegal to marry just over the border in England. The blacksmiths shop still stands today.
